Abstract:
I will present a succinct summary account of my academic profile that has crystallized over these years and the approaches I use to tackle the research questions I pose. As reflected in the title of this HDR, there are three main, interlinked strands of research that I pursue: I investigate the manifestations and range of linguistic diversity, focusing on world-wide typology, in particular of the lexicon; the genesis and history of linguistic diversity, an axis that also includes general contributions, but that is devoted especially to South America and the Central Andes; and the cultural and non-linguistic underpinnings of linguistic diversity. These three foci combine in various ways, but I typically derive insights from comparative approaches.
