Session 3: Stress, tone, and suprasegmentals
In this session, we will discuss cross-linguistic properties of stress, including its phonetic and phonological correlates, principles behind stress placement, segmental effects of stress, and the implications of these for holistic phonological typologies of speech rhythm. We will more briefly discuss tone, interactions between stress and tone, and other suprasegmental phenomena including glottal prosody.
