The phonology of Ntumu Fang (Bantu, A75) revisited

  Contact person
Lolke VAN DER VEEN

Scientific framework and objectives

Earlier studies (i.a. Hombert 1991, Medjo Mvé 1997) have posited for Fang (Bantu A75) phonemic vowel length, closed syllables (in addition to open syllables) and three tone registres (H, L and M). The objective of study is to revisit these claims, and to propose alternative approaches based on recent instrumental data from the Ntumu dialect. It will also incorporate findings from the study of drum language in relation with Fang.
