Natalia ERASO

Scientific framework and objectives

Tanimuka is a language from the Tucanoan family (Western branch) spoken by a population of about 500 speakers, who belong either to the Tanimuka or the Letuama people, and live between the Mirití Parana and the Apaporis rivers in the Colombian Amazonia. For this PhD thesis, started in 2007 and supervised by Colette Grinevald, Natalia Eraso continues her study of Tanimuka, which was undertaken while a Master student at the Centre Colombien pour l'Etude des Langues Aborigènes (CCELA). Her research’s focus is the description of spatial notions in a typological perspective. This description consists of of three parts: (1) a sociolinguistic description; (2) a grammatical overview of the language; (3) a study of the different grammatical systems related to spatial notions, in particular a numeral classifiers system and a system of locative verbs of posture and position. Her work is based on data collected for her Master plus new data (texts, elicitations, stimuli) collected in the field in 2007 with the support of the Trajectoire-DDL project and in 2009 as part of the Ecos Nord program between Toulouse University and the National University of Colombia, Bogotá, with the en collaboration of Elsa Gomez-Imbert and Ana Maria Ospina Bossi.
