I am doing a cross cultural study between french and american dyads, focusing on the child directed speech.
Generative theoreticians assumed that the role of input was a limited one, acquisition was emerging from innate and universally available mechanisms. However, some recent studies claim that input is the source of the child language and is sufficient to provide an adult grammar. Also, statistics studies have revealed learning mechanisms that allows infants to extract statistics regularities from language input.
Mother input could be seen as a driving force in child language development.
